Sunshine and an optimistic crowd awaited the Shinfield team at Millworth today. With everyone back from injury and two really close recent games under their belts (losing by only one goal both times) Shinfield have started playing together really well again under Carl and Raymond’s guidance.
Shinfield had most of the play in the first half with numerous opportunities to score but not one could find the back of the net. The opposition must have felt lucky to go in at half time without having conceded a goal. Team talk at half time called for more of the same and the second half started with the same level of enthusiasm.
With all 15 players available today there were lots of substitutions to be made and the boys got to play in many different positions. It’s great to see them really supporting each other and playing as a team. Completely against the flow of play Eversley & California got a break away opportunity which caught our defence misplaced leaving TJ with an impossible task and unable to save the goal. 0 – 1.
The boy’s heads were prevented from going down by the renewed support from the Mums on the sidelines – Angela and Lisa once again on form but facing strong competition from Ben’s baby sister! The boys fought back and had most of the play in the closing stages of the game. John was brought down by the keeper in the box and the referee immediately pointed to the penalty spot. Some couldn’t watch as Andrew placed the ball and took his run up. After hitting the right upright it did make its way into the net! 1 – 1.
Other chances came our way in the final moments of the game but at the final whistle we had earned a point and were pleased with that … the last time we got any points was back on 10th November! So we are moving on and looking forward to the remaining 2 games of the season. Manager’s player of the match – Jack.
As is customary on Mother’s Day the boys took to the pitch with the Mums for a photo shoot!
