The boys looked upbeat despite losing last week where the weather and blade-less centre circle turned the match into a muddy mess. DG’s pitch, however, was the total opposite in comparison and was more like the Amazon 🙂 so they boys had no excuses.. and we were not disappointed. Within 3 minutes on a counter attack Aiden looked up from the left wing and ziped a cross field ball to the opposite wing. Gazza took the ball toward the goal and scored with a low left corner shot. Great play and well taken goal.

The early goal, as they do, meant DG dominated the next 20 mins. I counted 4 successive corners and our defence and stand-in goalie weathered the storm. Minutes before the half came to a close Damon scored from 15 yard out:  the keeper had no chance.

2nd half, to their credit and despite not having any spare subs and  at times only 10 players, DG came out strong. Our boys contained the effort and soon took a hold on game. JackL come on as right wing and was finding a lot of room and was rewarded with his first goal for the team. His second attempt hit the upright and fell to Curtis to notch up a first as well. Damon got his second with great skill, plucking the ball out of midair and a thunderous shot.

Great game and the finishes with a much needed win..

A lot of positives that need to be sustained moving forward; The defence was outstanding, JackB and Markus holding the line well, Ajay and Louis assured in their positions, Curtis with some outstanding overlap running and was rewarded with a goal. Midfield was better, Dan & Vinay looking up and getting passes out, Calum supporting defence and sweeping up. Aiden, JackG, JackL and Damon leading the attack well, a lot of good running and some dangerous cross balls and crosses. Finally, Ellis for standing in as goalie, he looked a natural. If the boys can channel their energy like this for the rest of the season then we’ll see them make their mark in the league.

I would like to thank DG for a great game, they did their club proud and played well despite only having 10 players at times. Special mention for JackL, Curtis, and Damon for a great performance. Finally, Ellis for going in goal on short notice and making it look easy 🙂
