We all had a wonderful time at the Madejski Stadium on 31 January 2015 when over 100 Shinfield Rangers Players and their families went en mass to watch Reading FC play at home against Sheffield Wednesday.
We couldn’t have had a better time!
Before the start, 9 lucky Shinfield players went onto the pitch and had their photograph taken as proof.
Then the stadium filled up and the match began. Reading got off to a frenetic and exciting start with the help of cheers and support from Shinfield. From early on it looked like it was going to be Reading’s day, and by half-time the score was 2-0 in Reading’s favour.
During the break, Shinfield Rangers again had a presence on the pitch when officials were presented with our Reading Academy Partner Club plaque, which now hangs proudly in our pavilion at Millworth Lane.
Perhaps it was co-incidence, perhaps not, but we reckon this was the best performance Reading have shown so far this season, and that maybe it was helped along by the great Spirit that Shinfield Rangers players are renowned for, that encouraged Reading on the day.
We’d like to give a big THANK YOU to everyone at Reading FC who contributed to us having such a great time. Who knows, but with the help of the Academy, perhaps one day some of those Shinfield Rangers players that were there will go onto the pitch again, but next time in the role of players for Reading’s First Team. Reading have a great reputation for encouraging and using local talent, and we have loads at Shinfield Rangers, so let’s hope for that!
