At Shinfield Rangers FC we are really excited to have played our first matches on the new FA-approved all-weather pitch at the revamped Ryeish Green Sports Hub, currently under redevelopment by Wokingham Borough. Everyone that has used it so far has been very impressed by the high standard of the facilities, which will undoubtedly raise the playing standards of the two local teams in the Parish. Players love it because it has a consistent and predictable surface, the coaches because of the opportunities to improve the players, and referees because they can see the play more clearly – plus the lines are much easier to see without all the usual mud in the way!
Most of all, for everyone at Shinfield Rangers and our friends at Spencers Wood FC, is the feeling of pride in what we now have and the encouragement this facility gives to our players thanks to the investment, considerable support and hard work that has gone on behind the scenes for nearly a decade by both the Clubs, Shinfield Parish and Wokingham Borough Councils, and the FA.
The Hub is still under development so more facilities will come on board over the next 18 months or so. Next up is the connection of the floodlights to the power supply, which will open up evening training for both ourselves and Spencers Wood FC. In time for the start of the new season on September 1st, the grass pitches, which have had the drainage improved but are currently being left to settle and the grass to grow, will come into operation. And beyond that will be new changing facilities and community space, followed undoubtedly by the reopening of a fantastically refurbished and equipped Sports Hall to complete the Sports Hub.
