How appropriate on the weekend that “Strictly” returns to our TV screens, that Shinfield were able to score a perfect 10 in their match against Tedlothian Tigers. No sequins or glitter balls on display .. just a ruthless demolition of their opponents who were only able to field a 10 man team.
Sam opened the scoring early on with a strong shot that squirmed under the keeper and over the line. Shinfield then had a goal disallowed for offside after a fabulous sweeping passing move. Luke got himself on the score sheet with a tap in at the far post.
It was then time for hat trick hero Will to grab the headlines…a strong run down the left and cross from Liam was neatly tucked away, then an exquisite swivel and lob over the keeper and finally he converted a cross from Sam with a perfectly timed volley.
Shinfield continued to push hard and exposed the holes in the tiring Tedlothian defence. Liam shot into the side netting and Sam cracked a wonderful corner onto the corner of the crossbar. Shinfield looked so dangerous with every attack and went into the halftime break with a comfortable 5-0 lead.
Ash came out of goal for the second half and was restored to the heart of the defence where he put in another masterful display. Tigers tried their best to keep Shinfield at bay, but with no substitutes and facing a mountain to climb, it wasn’t long before the home team extended their lead with a fantastic volley from Josh at the edge of the box.
Liam’s strong attacking drive was rewarded as he burst through a congested penalty box and finished with power and precision to make it “se-ven”. For me, Tyson scored the goal of the game with a beautiful run down the left, jinking past many defenders before cutting in from the touchline and delightfully curling the ball with his right foot into the bottom right hand corner.
Tom converted one of his chances when he found himself in space in front of goal with a neat finish to take the tally to 9. Sam rounded off the scoring with another trademark belter of a strike, although there was a question of it being an OG as it was possibly headed over the line by a desperate defender. The goal scorers grabbed the attention yesterday but it was a solid team performance with everyone contributing to the collective cause which is surely a source of great pride for Will.
We wish Tedlothian Tigers best wishes for the rest of the season as it is never fun to be on the end of a big score line. They showed character to keep going until the final whistle.
However all in all, this performance had everything for the home fans to enjoy and savour …goals galore, a hat trick hero, switching, attacking wing play, imperious defending and of course glorious autumnal sunshine and birthday cupcakes!
I’m going to have to give it a ten from He-Len !!
Result – 10-0
Scorers – Will-3, Sam-2, Luke-1, Liam-1, Josh-1, Tyson-1, Tom-1
