Wildcats for beginner girls

After a long break due to the pandemic, our Wildcats sessions started back on Friday April 9th and will until the schools break for their summer holidays on July 23rd 2021.

These sessions are for “Beginner” girls who want to get involved with football for the very first time or want the opportunity to play with other girls their own age.

Sessions will run on Friday evenings on the 3G pitch at the Ryeish Green Sports Hub from 18:30-19:30, April 9th – July 23rd. Girls can only attend Wildcats if they have pre-booked each individual session (see below). We have a small amount of funding that allows us to run the Wildcats sessions for free.

About Wildcats

The aim is to enable girls to play football in a fun and friendly environment which provides the perfect setting for them to meet new friends, build confidence and stay active.  As such the sessions are not for girls who play in league matches because we don’t want to undermine the confidence of the new girls, and these are not training sessions. However, we are making an exception for our Under 8’s team this year because they’ve had very little experience thanks to all the lockdowns, and I’m sure they’ll want to help the new girls settle in. Further information: https://www.thefa.com/womens-girls-football/get-involved/girls/fun/wildcats

It looks like Wildcats will be linked with Disney/Pixar Incredibles this year as well as with Weetabix, so expect related merchandising, some of which has appeared alongside some excellent activity videos on the FA’s girls’ football activities at home page: https://bit.ly/3bDNhPu

Helpers are welcome

Wildcats sessions are also a brilliant opportunity for anyone who wants to try their hand at coaching and helping children to gain confidence. You don’t need to be an expert, you don’t need to commit to helping all the time, and the sessions are great fun for the coaches as well as the girls. Have a look here for details, including a link to a free online course: https://www.thefa.com/womens-girls-football/get-involved/girls/fun/wildcats/volunteer  We will need to run a DBS check on you, but otherwise all you have to do is let me know!

How to register and book places

We run the sessions under the banner of the FA, so you need to register through their portal and must not turn up at sessions without booking through that portal.

  • To register: https://bit.ly/3qAVzMu then select one of the “Book” slots and register
  • Alternatively, from the information page (linked to in “About Wildcats” above) click on “What to Expect” then at the bottom of the page search for Ryeish Green Sports Hub and book a slot and register from there.

Please email us if you do register as we don’t get access to the registered email addresses, which sometimes makes contact difficult!
